APPEARANCE: Evergreen perennial flowering yellow to 2 feet tall.

GROWING INFORMATION: Zones 4 to 8. Plant thrives in regular garden soil in the shade or sun. In the spring, lightly scarify seed by rubbing on fine grit sandpaper and plant in pots or directly in the garden. Sow seed on surface, barely cover with soil, then press in firmly and keep evenly moist and it the light until germ, which takes 10 to 14 days. Thin or transplant to 2 feet apart.

APPEARANCE: Mounding plant produces profuse, yellow flowers to 2 feet tall. Flowers yellow to 2 feet tall on downy, silvery foliage.

GROWING INFORMATION: Perennial in Zones 7 to 12, otherwise grown as a potted plant brought indoors for the winter. Plant thrives in full sun or part shade in very well-drained garden soil or rockery. In the spring, sow in pots or flats. Rough up soil surface, scatter seed, tamp securely and deep evenly moist until germination, which occurs in 10 to 20 days. Tin or transplant to 2 to 3 feet apart.

USE: The plant is used in herbal therapy as an anti-inflammatory on the same level as Arnica.

APPEARANCE: Creeping perennial ground cover flowers white and yellow to 12 inches tall. Plants spread and interlock to form a tough mat, which can be mowed.

GROWING INFORMATION:  Zones 4 to 9. Plant thrives in regular garden soil or alkaline soils in the sun to part shade. Mix small seed with sand to afford even planting. In the spring, strew seed on surface of soil in a pot or a weed-free seedbed, work in shallowly, and tamp securely. Germ in about a week. Thin or transplant to 8 inches apart. May be mowed to maintain as a mat.
