How to Prepare Herbal Tea
By the Mug
You need:
- Tea bag or cup infuser
- Mug or tea cup
- 2 tablespoons dried herb
- Boiling water
- Honey, Stevia, sweetener, lemon juice or milk (optional) - to taste
To Prepare:
- Start water to boil.
- Put herb in tea bag
- Pour boiling water in tea cup
- Put in tea bag
- Let steep 5 minutes
- Take out tea bag
- Sweeten to taste (optional)
- STIR AND ENJOY!
By the Quart
You need:
One of the three following:
- Mason Jar Method:1 quart jar w/ lid + tea bag
- Infuser Teapot Method: 6 cup teapot w/ infuser
- French Press Method: 1 quart French Press
And:
- Heaping 1/2 cup dried herb
- Boiling water
- Sweetener, lemon juice or milk (optional).
To Prepare:
- Bring to boil a little more than a quart of water.
- Put dried herb in tea bag, infuser or French Press.
- When water is boiling, pour water in jar, teapot or press to near top (If using tea bag, put in tea bag with string hanging out).
- Put on lid.
- Steep: 20 minutes if using jar or teapot or 15 minutes if using French Press or if herb is free-floating
- After steeping, remove tea bag or infuser - With French Press, push down herb to bottom of press and pour tea out.
- Add sweetener or additions to taste.
- STIR & ENJOY!
By the Gallon
You need:
- 2 - 6 x 8 Tea bags
- 2 ounces dried herb
- 1 gallon Boiling water
- 1 gallon Pitcher
- Fine strainer
- Enamel Pot with lid - that will contain over a gallon of liquid
- Sweetener, lemon juice or milk (optional) - to taste
To Prepare:
- Start 1 gallon of water to boil in a covered enamel pot.
- Put 1 oz. of herb in each of the 2 tea bags
- Once the water is boiling, pull pot off of stove.
- Put filled tea bags in water and stir just to get saturated in water.
- Replace lid and let steep 1 hour 20 minutes.
- After steeping, strain tea into pitcher
- Add Sweetener, if desired.
- STIR & ENJOY!
FYI
STEEPING HERBAL TEA TOO LONG WILL MAKE IT BITTER.
If you want more flavor, add more herb, not more time.
Sweeteners
Honey:
Our preferred amount of honey for:
1 qt. is 3 tbsp.
1 gal. is 3/4 c.
Whole Dried Stevia:
Whole dried Stevia is added to the dried herb and is steeped with the herbs. Our preferred amount of Stevia for:
- 1 c. is 1 tsp.
- 1 qt. is 4 tsps.
- 1 gal. is 5 tbsp.
Making Iced Herbal Tea
To Prepare:
- Prepare tea as normal.
- Let tea cool and put in refrigerator. Tea will keep good for several days.
- Great served over ice.
IDEA TO DO A QUICK COOL:
Cool quickly by putting in closed stainless steel canisters, close tightly and dowse in cold water for 10 to 15 minutes, then put in gallon pitcher or jug and refrigerate.
