LIME (Citrus aurantifolia)

THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES: antibacterial, antiseptic, antiviral, restorative, tonic

AFFINITY FOR: digestive problems, respiratory problems, immune function, lymphatic system, liver and gallbladder meridians, solar plexus chakra

RESONANCE: physical, mental, emotional

PLANT FAMILY: Rutaceae

PART UTILIZED: fruit

EXTRACTION METHOD: cold pressed

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: Beautiful, fresh, and refreshing fragrance. A favorite for diffusing.

APPLICATION: Lime is a delightful addition to baths, body lotions, and deodorants. LeIntention, with a large percentage of Lime, is a very nice massage oil.

EMOTIONAL - SPIRITUAL - MENTAL ASPECTS: Lime essential oil is a perfect choice for the very weary—those who are so weary of trials and troubles that they feel far older than their years on earth would indicate. The lively fragrance of Lime is stimulating and refreshing. It can help one overcome exhaustion, depression, apathy, and listlessness. Good oil for improving memory and concentration.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS: Lime essential oil is said to soothe broken capillaries, stimulate the muscles around the eyes, brighten a pale, dull complexion by removing dead skin cells, and is capable of tightening skin and connective tissue. Lime is a good oil for digestive difficulties, particularly gallstones and gallbladder inflammation. This oil is recommended for liver deficiencies and liver cleansing in infants and children. Lime stimulates the immune system to increase production of leukocytes that aid in fighting infections. Lime oil is also used to stabilize blood pressure fluctuations.

Marjoram Essential Oil

Marjoram Essential Oil

Regular price $17.99

MARJORAM (Marjorana hortensis or Origanum marjorana)

THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES: antispasmodic, arterial vasodilator, expectorant, digestive, analgesic, calming, sedative, antitussive, antiseptic, antibiotic, anti-infective, diuretic, emmenagogue

AFFINITY FOR: respiratory system, digestive system, cardiovascular system, reproductive areas, solar plexus chakra, governing vessel meridian, stomach and spleen meridians, yang energy

RESONANCE: physical, emotional

PLANT FAMILY: Labiatae

PART UTILIZED: leaves

EXTRACTION METHOD: steam distilled

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: The aroma of Marjoram oil can warm the soul in times of grief, sorrow, or loneliness.

APPLICATION: Dilute and apply to the feet or any area of the body.

EMOTIONAL - SPIRITUAL - MENTAL ASPECTS: Marjoram is quieting to obsessive worry where negative thoughts circle repetitively in the brain hour after hour. This type of obsessive worry is an indication of depleted or stressed earth energy.

Marjoram essential oil is also helpful for those who seem to love being in the center of some sort of drama all the time. This need for attention is a manifestation of an energetically depleted earth meridian with its “lack of something” perception. In this instance, the feeling of deprivation focuses on family or friends. We are sure that “no one cares” about us as they should. The aroma of Marjoram oil can eliminate feelings of loneliness or persecution, replacing them with feelings of security and even some compassion for others.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS: Marjoram eases respiratory distress and infections such as bronchitis. It is often beneficial for spasmodic dry coughs. The analgesic properties of Marjoram make it an appropriate choice for muscle aches, sprains, strains, and arthritis. Marjoram essential oil helps bruising to clear and fade more quickly. Marjoram increases the dilation of blood vessels, lowers blood pressure, and eases heart palpitations. It can ease headaches that are caused by muscle tension or lack of circulation.

Marjoram oil increases the tone and effectiveness of parasympathetic nerves. One benefit of healthy parasympathetic nerves is an increase in the peristalsis in the colon. Marjoram regulates the menstrual cycle, relieves pain and cramping.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Marjoram was known as the “herb of happiness” to the early Romans and “joy of the mountain” to the Greeks.

CAUTIONS: Marjoram should be used sparingly during pregnancy.

Motherwort Tincture

Motherwort Tincture

Regular price $16.99

MOTHERWORT (Leonurus cardiaca)

PART USED: Aerial portion

PROPERTIES: Tonic (nerve, heart), Alterative, Vulnerary, Diuretic, Emmenagogue, Demulcent, Nervine

SYSTEMS AFFECTED: Cardiovascular, Nervous, Endocrine/Glandular

POSSIBLE USES: painful, delayed, or suppressed periods, effective labor contractions, anxiety, high blood pressure

Motherwort is a mild nervine and tonic herb with pronounced hormonal properties. Motherwort is used for painful, delayed, or suppressed periods. It is often used to encourage rhythmic, effective contractions during labor. This stimulating property is offset by strong sedative and relaxing properties, and the ability to relieve anxiety and tension. Motherwort is also used in formulas for the prevention of miscarriage.

Motherwort is an excellent cardiovascular tonic. It is used for arrhythmias and palpitations that are brought on by stress, anxiety, and tension. Motherwort will temporarily lower blood pressure, giving a person time to adjust diet and lifestyle to eliminate the problem altogether.

The combining of Motherwort with Passion Flower makes an excellent substitute for the wonderful but unavailable (except in homeopathic form) herb, Lady Slipper. Motherwort should be used cautiously and sparingly during pregnancy, if at all, as it may stimulate bleeding.

Mullein Infused Oil
Butterfly Express

Mullein Infused Oil

Regular price $14.99

MULLEIN OIL (Verbascum thapsus)

EXTRACTION METHOD: Mullein leaves and flowers infused in Almond Oil

CONSISTENCY: medium weight, light color

PART UTILIZED: flower and leaf

APPLICATION: Mullein Carrier Oil can be used all by itself, 100%.

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: slight flower/herb aroma

GENERAL INFORMATION: Mullein has been used for centuries because of its outstanding medicinal properties. The herb Mullein grows in dry, barren places. Following the ancient law of signatures, this would indicate that Mullein is an herb for respiratory conditions, especially those where the lungs need “drying out.” Mullein also has anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-spasmodic properties, thus increasing its value in respiratory ailments and is certainly recommended for use as a carrier oil with these conditions.

Mullein Oil is one of the ingredients in EO made by Butterfly Express LLC for use with earaches and infections. Mullein is often added to herbal poultices to provide emollient and healing properties and to offset the astringency of some anti-infectious herbs. The infused oil can be used in much the same way.

Mullein Oil, as a carrier oil, should be used when applying oils to the chest for infections, coughs, and congestion. It can be used in the ears, alone or as part of the EO recipe, to relieve the pain of ear infections and fight the bacterial involved. It can also be of benefit as a carrier oil when working with inflammation and pain. Mullein is gentle enough to be used on babies for diaper rash and for cracked nipples with nursing mothers.

MW is a formula for women past childbearing age who are experiencing symptoms of hormone imbalance such as hot flashes, night sweats, tissue dryness, or headaches. After menopause, estrogen still needs to be produced by the body, but this production no longer occurs in the ovaries. The MW formula provides the nutrients needed for the change over to occur smoothly and symptom free. Menopause need not be a miserable experience, nor does life after menopause need to be full of unpleasant symptoms.

Make sure mineral and vitamin intake is adequate by taking KNA or MIN. Add LeBalance and LeEndoRelief essential oil blends.

Myrrh Essential Oil
Butterfly Express

Myrrh Essential Oil

Regular price $43.99

MYRRH (Commiphora myrrha)

THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES: anti-inflammatory, pectoral, antiseptic, antispasmodic, cholagogue, cicatrisive, balsamic, expectorant, antifungal, astringent, vulnerary, soporific, hemostatic

AFFINITY FOR: digestive system, respiratory system, vascular system, base chakra, earth and metal elements, yang energy, throat chakra

RESONANCE: physical, emotional

PLANT FAMILY: Burseraceae

PART UTILIZED: gum, resin

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: Myrrh has been used in meditation for centuries. It is a wonderful oil, although it doesn’t have the most pleasant aroma.

APPLICATION: Myrrh essential oil can be diluted and applied to the feet or anywhere on the body. Myrrh is a resin; even diluted it remains tacky on the skin for a few minutes.

EMOTIONAL - SPIRITUAL - MENTAL ASPECTS: Myrrh essential oil helps us see ways and means for the achievement of our dreams. It opens our minds to inspiration and the direction of the spirit while keeping us firmly grounded in reality and common sense. Myrrh has an affinity for the base chakra, which connects this essential oil to issues of abundance and bounty. When we open ourselves to receive the gifts of the spirit and of the material world, these gifts will be given to us.

PHYSICAL ASPECTS: One of the outstanding properties of Myrrh is astringency, which means causing tissues and blood vessels to contract naturally. Myrrh can tighten the gums, tone the skin, aid muscle contraction in the intestines and other internal organs, and stop bleeding. Myrrh relieves congestion in the lungs and sinuses.

As a stimulant, Myrrh has an effect on thoughts, blood circulation, the secretion of needed bile in the digestive process, the pumping action of the heart, and makes you more alert by stimulating the brain and nervous system. Myrrh’s stimulant properties have a particular affinity for the immune system and the circulation.

Myrrh essential oil increases perspiration during times of illness, ridding the body of toxins and cleansing the pores of the skin. Myrrh is an excellent choice for skin complaints such as eczema, ringworm, athlete’s foot, chapped and cracked skin, stretch marks, rashes, and wrinkles.

CAUTIONS: Myrrh should be limited by pregnant women because Myrrh is a mild uterine stimulant.

Nettle Tincture

Regular price $16.99

NETTLE (Urtica dioica)

PART USED: Leaf

PROPERTIES: Alterative, Antiseptic, Anti-inflammatory, Tonic, Astringent/Styptic (stops bleeding), Hemostatic, Antispasmodic, Diuretic, Expectorant, Anti-allergenic

SYSTEMS AFFECTED: Respiratory, Urinary, Blood, Endocrine/Glandular

POSSIBLE USES: arthritis, skin rashes, allergies, anemia, breast milk production

INGREDIENT IN: AL, EUST, IBL, KNA, KS, MIN, PL, PT, TY

Nettles tea relieves lung congestion by acting as an expectorant and an antispasmodic, as needed, while providing nutrients which fight infection and raise energy levels. Nettles is an outstanding remedy for anything blood related—halting bleeding, cleansing the blood of impurities, or building the blood in cases of anemia.

Nettles is a very nutritious herb. It is rich in iron, silicon, calcium, and potassium. Fresh, young leaves harvested in the spring (with gloves and a long-sleeved shirt) make a nutritious vegetable and spring tonic. Steaming removes any trace of the “itchiness” one might suspect to be a problem. It is interesting—amazing actually, that God is so good—to note that wherever Nettles grow in the wild there will be, growing right at the feet of this very irritating and itch-causing plant, a plant which when rubbed on the skin completely eliminates any rash or itching. In the Cache Valley area, where I am from, that plant is called Galium and is always right there with the Nettles. Plantain, often nearby, is also effective against Nettles sting.

Nettles has a diuretic action due to the flavonoids and the high potassium levels found in this herb. Nettles not only increases urine production but encourages the pull of toxins from the cells for elimination by the kidneys. Nettles slows or stops bleeding altogether from small wounds and nosebleeds, and is an excellent remedy for heavy menstrual flow.

Nettles, combined with Dulse and Alfalfa, (the KNA recipe), provide a full range of vitamins and minerals along with a readily absorbable protein or two. A great nutritive supplement.
